Moment Psychotherapy
* I am offering online therapy sessions for MA & OR residents on a HIPAA-compliant platform. Hello, my name is Cynthia (she/her). I am a licensed clinical psychologist in MA & OR. Prior to becoming a psychologist, I served as a public interest attorney in MI and OR. As a psychologist, I continue to work from an anti-oppressive framework, approaching therapy as a collaboration. I specialize in longer-term psychotherapy to enable deeper understanding of the meaning behind manifest symptoms by exploring one’s distinctive history, upbringing, and cultural context as it relates to the present. However, flexibility and collaboration are central to my approach for those desiring brief consultations for specific situations. I draw from psychoanalytic and attachment theories, which value understanding how our internal and external worlds interact. I pay attention to the contextual thread comprising our present selves including our early experiences and the cultural, sociopolitical milieu we inhabit. I have experience working with adults from diverse backgrounds in inpatient/outpatient hospital settings, community mental health clinics, and college counseling centers. I am especially interested in shifting patterns of psychological trauma to embolden one’s sense of agency and increase cognitive and emotional flexibility for a more compassionate and creative sense of being with self and others.

My work is to support you in realizing your most authentic, integrated self. I offer holistic, mindful somatic psychotherapy (Hakomi method), to create deep and lasting growth and change. In our work together we'll turn towards your physical sensations and emotions, for the sake of the information, and to allow integration and wholeness, and a future that does not look like your past. A respect for the intelligence of nature, Jungian archetypes, Eastern Philosophies (having spent 20 years as an acupuncturist), and a love for writing and creative practices is woven into my work. I love supporting women in life change. Relationship loss and grief, career shift or desire to shift, perimenopause, empty-nest, or partnering - these are times ripe for discovery and exploration. Therapy can support your evolution - find deeper connection with yourself and others, heal unresolved hurts, embody your strengths, develop a stronger identity and self-worth, and discover direction or post-traumatic growth. Anxiety, depression, issues of self-worth and relational issues - through this process of witnessed self-reflection, you'll develop greater insight, capacity to interrupt self-defeating patterns, and opportunity to create more aligned choices and preferred experiences in your life. William Temple House
William Temple House works with 26 or more volunteer, staff, and intern therapists to provide affordable counseling to the people of Portland. We offer sessions for low or no cost - our hope is that finances are not ever a barrier to people receiving counseling. We are committed to providing supportive and impactful counseling services that are based on the client's preference and need. Our services are all person-centered, strengths-focused, and trauma-informed. Because we work with so many therapists the information about our providers, modalities and approaches, and specialties changes regularly - if you are looking to work with someone of a particular identity or specialty that you do not see listed now, check back in the future. All of our counselors are trained and supported to work with people of identities different from their own with intentionality, sensitivity, and thoughtfulness and they all undergo continuous supervision to ensure they are meeting the needs of the individuals they work with.
Dragonwise Counseling
I work with people who feel like they don’t belong. Together, we’ll find ways to reconnect you to your inner strengths and capacities, to community and nourishing relationships, and to the world at large. There’s many reasons people might feel like misfits, weirdos, or exiles. Many of us can’t or won’t fit into our socially proscribed boxes. I have particular experience working with queer and non-binary folks, with people on the autism spectrum, with multiracial and/or bicultural folks, with creatives, innovators, and activists working on the edge of social change, and with survivors of trauma. And I’m open to working with anyone who feels drawn to my approach, so feel free to reach out!

I accompany people on their journey to a more grounded and liberated life by exploring how our intersecting identities and cultural experiences have led to the ways we are hurt, but also hold the keys to how we heal. For my clients, these layers of oppression may result in anxiety, depression, trauma, and racial identity concerns. We'll work together to process your experience, draw out your strengths, and support your goals. I love working with Asian American adults, and other People of Color, to connect the impacts of history, oppression, and culture on mental health and wellbeing.
A Guided You, LLC
Are you struggling to find your purpose or understand the direction your life is taking? Do you grapple with questions of identity or acceptance? Does uncertainty often cloud your thoughts? If any of this resonates with you, or if you're seeking a deeper understanding of your life, I am here to guide you on your journey. I understand the profound importance of finding representation and connecting with someone who shares or understands similar narratives. It can be challenging to trust that a therapist truly relates to your experiences, especially during life’s most difficult moments. I specialize in supporting BIPOC and LGBTQI+ communities, as well as individuals living with SPMI. My approach integrates mindfulness, trauma-informed care, CBT, and other evidence-based practices to address your unique needs. Together, we will collaborate to identify and outline those needs in a safe and supportive environment. My life mantra is: Every day is a teaching moment. Each action and experience presents an opportunity to grow, learn, and evolve. With these moments, we are gifted tools that help guide us forward. I work with folks who want to connect with their emotional worlds and nurture relationships both with themselves and others. As a cis-gender male, I have often had the thought that it seems like everyone else got the guide-book to relationships except me. I, like many of you, am someone who was raised as in a context that did not prize or promote emotional self-inquiry, self-connection and direct communication. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, anger, shame or dissatisfaction with your life, there is space for you here. I practice mindfulness-based therapy, which means that in our work together I may invite you to pause or slow down so that we can bring curiosity to your inner world. Your experience is important and, if we work together, I commit to walking along side you in what is an act of courage not acknowledged enough: reconnecting with and honoring ourselves. Perhaps you are longing for a more satisfying way of existing in this world. Not to fret, this has been the case for many of us and the path back home to an aligned state of being has been tread by many before you. I have helped many like you and would be delighted to explore working together.

I work with students navigating anxiety, relationship struggles, family dynamics, identity questions, and the pressures inherent in being in college like how hard it is to have it all figured out or to transition to new phases of life. My approach is grounded in warmth and honesty, using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) to help you feel seen, supported, and be able to really access your emotions and thoughts with out judgement. I care deeply about this time in your life and believe meaningful change happens when we feel safe enough to be ourselves, even the messy parts.

Have you been longing for a more fulfilling, meaningful life? If you are feeling paralyzed or trapped by worry or sadness, you may benefit from an in-depth psychotherapy approach that allows you to break old patterns and grow into a deeper understanding of yourself. I offer online (video-based) therapy to treat trauma, grief/loss, anxiety, and depression. I use CBT and Mindfulness based techniques in my work, but the foundation of my therapeutic approach is from an Existential Therapy perspective, which allows us to slow down and look closely at your current experience so that together we can shape the future you want to have. I feel honored to be a part of helping people grow, fulfill their potential, and thrive in areas that correspond to their values. I have lived in several countries and speak English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Both as a therapist and professor, I have served individuals of many cultures as well as marginalized populations which informs my practice & worldview. If you are invested in personal growth toward a life of purpose, I invite you to contact me or visit my website to learn more about how you can find healing & meaning in your life. Being in college right now is tough. Personal struggles, family issues, and the pressure to keep it all together, plus the chaos of everything going on in the world, it makes sense that you're feeling overwhelmed. If you’re dealing with difficult past experiences, family stress, or just the daily pressure of trying to stay afloat, you don’t have to go through it alone. I specialize in helping people process tough emotions, navigate life transitions, and manage stress in healthy ways. I’ve worked with folks navigating trauma, family dynamics, and anxiety—and I use tools like EMDR and IFS to help you work through what’s weighing you down. Therapy is about giving you the space to deal with what’s hard and find practical ways forward, so you can feel more in control and less stuck. I’m passionate about working with women, gender-expansive individuals, and LGBTQ+ folks. No judgment. Just real, down-to-earth support to help you move forward.

I work with individuals, couples and adult families who experience trauma, anxiety, depression, identity or life transitions, and relationship struggle. Many of the people I work with are queer, neurodivergent, non-monogamous, disabled or chronically ill. I take a liberatory, community oriented approach to therapy and will work with you to co-create a container that supports your innate capacity for healing, growth and connection. I draw from narrative therapy and humanism in my therapeutic approach. This means that I'll invite you to expand, deconstruct and reimagine the stories that you hold about yourself and the world around you while offering empathy, reflection and guidance that that celebrates your humanity and your innate capacity for growth, healing and connection. I’m genderqueer, non-monogamous, live with chronic illness, and love being outdoors and growing food. I’m sex positive, disability affirming, neurodiversity affirming, and my approach to therapy is informed by lineages of abolitionism, disability justice and queer feminism. If you think we could be a good fit, I'd love to hear from you!

College can feel exciting and full of opportunities, but it can also bring a lot of stress. Many of the students I work with are balancing heavy class loads, pressure to succeed, relationship changes, and sometimes homesickness. This can lead to feeling anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, or unable to focus. At Giving Hope Psychiatry, I work with students who seek support in managing stress, improving focus, stabilizing their mood, and finding healthy ways to cope with challenges. Some students come to me for help with ADHD, anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder. Others simply need a safe space to discuss what they’re going through and explore options for feeling better. Appointments are available online and flexible, allowing you to meet from your dorm, apartment, or anywhere you feel comfortable. My goal is to provide care that is supportive, personalized, and hopeful—so you don’t have to go through this alone.
