Hello! My background is working with teens, adults, couples, and families. I specialize in depression, self-esteem, anxiety, as well as mood and personality disorders like bipolar and borderline personality disorders. Sessions lead with a person-centered approach and evidence-based practices. My style is warm and fun, partly so you can feel like you took a breath of fresh air, at the same time as reaching your goals. I value the importance of trust when working with my clients. Together, we will create an individualized plan where you approve each decision. The purpose would be to have clear goals, monitor progress, and efficiency. I recently started my own practice, after being an associate therapist for a group for 3+ years. My experience also includes working for Youth and Family Services, child protection, a homeless shelter, and inpatient care. Environments that emphasized the importance of providing compassionate and quality care, with confidence to handle any complex situation. Anyone who tries to make the commitment to start therapy deserves a lot of credit! In my experience, what sets apart a good from a great therapist is having an innate ability to empathize and listen. I make this standard. There is a special purpose in feeling seen. For more info schedule a free consult! I look forward to meeting!

Emotions are normal, even hard to handle ones. Struggling is normal; it’s all part of the human experience. I’m here to teach you and empower you to manage and cope with strong emotions, stressors, and hardships. Through our time together, you will learn about the mind and how it connects with the body, and how to apply this knowledge to feel better. I specialize in treating trauma, depression, anxiety, dual diagnosis involving addiction and mental illness, positive psychology, and holistic healing. The mind is a powerful tool. With specific therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, (changing one’s thoughts to then change one’s emotions and behaviors), we can restructure our brain to operate in a more optimal manner, resulting in less stress, anxiety and depression symptoms, and more meaning, joy and fulfillment. With my therapeutic expertise, concrete tools, empathy, and compassion, I will guide you towards the best version of yourself who is better equipped to handle life’s stressors and make positive changes.

I am currently accepting new clients and offer both weekly therapy sessions and EMDR intensives, allowing you to choose the pace and structure that best fits your needs. I strive to create a warm, accepting, and non-judgmental space where clients feel safe to process painful emotions and life experiences. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to each individual, helping you move toward healing with clarity and support. I specialize in trauma treatment and offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), one of the most well-researched and effective therapies for trauma and PTSD. In addition to traditional talk therapy and weekly EMDR sessions, I also provide EMDR intensives and Ketamine-Assisted EMDR for clients seeking deeper, more accelerated healing. While I enjoy working with individuals across the lifespan, I have a particular passion for supporting adolescents and young adults as they navigate the complexities of today. I earned my Master of Social Work with a specialization in behavioral health from the University of Maryland School of Social Work, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Wake Forest University. I specialize in treating anxiety/OCD and insomnia disorders. I also frequently work with depression, ADHD, self-esteem issues, social/relationship issues, school and work stressors, and perfectionism. I work with adults and teenagers, and I particularly enjoy helping young adults navigate life transitions (e.g. high school to college/work, career changes, breakups and new relationships). Additionally, I work with many individuals from a variety of backgrounds for whom a significant source of stress is current events and the political climate. I strive to make therapy a place where anyone can feel free to express themselves honestly. I incorporate multiple therapy approaches into our work, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness training. For sleep issues specifically, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), which the American College of Physicians recommends as the first-line treatment for insomnia. I work with many people who felt like they were stuck in previous therapy, and my goal is to make our work as productive and useful for you as possible. I love getting to know people and I customize my approach for each individual. If you are interested in learning more about my therapy services, please feel free to reach out by phone, email, or text!
Lauren Cohen
Welcome! I’m Lauren Cohen, a licensed independent clinical social worker, and I’m so glad you’re here. A bit about me: I’m a Los Angeles native, and a White, Jewish, cis-gendered (she/her) clinician. I am open about these parts of my identity when we work together - and strive to create a space where all of your parts always feel seen and welcome. I’ve always been fascinated by emotions, relationships, and behavior. My love for learning about different people has taken me to over 25 countries. Traveling has given me a profound understanding of human nature, “sameness”, and also the vast complexities of different cultures. Outside of sessions, I love creating pottery, being in nature, a good sunset swim, & trying new foods with my family and friends. I approach therapy with a dynamic and evolving perspective, tailoring my methods to meet your unique needs. Psychodynamic theory, Attachment theory, and Mindfulness are foundational to my work, and I am also a Level 1 trained therapist in Internal Family Systems (IFS). IFS allows us to explore the different “parts” of your identity, by uncovering truths and developing your own inner healer. I believe healing comes from building a trusting relationship between mind and body, and creating space for your authentic self to emerge. Meditation and breathwork are often utilized to connect you with your mind’s eye and core self. My approach to therapy is warm, kind and playful. I have a deeply non-judgmental attitude, providing a space where you can feel safe and supported as we navigate the complexities of your inner world. I also embrace the deeper, darker aspects of self, recognizing that these parts of your experience can hold wisdom and strength - the shadow is always welcome in our work.

Do you sometimes feel unsure of who you are? Are you going nonstop because being still feels impossible? Do you find that you're often trying to make yourself fit others' expectations, leaving you feeling uncomfortable in your own skin? Maybe you've lost a sense of who you are, always questioning everything you do and not wanting to be too much. You might freeze up, experiencing headaches and tension. You could be trying to control things like food intake or find yourself late-night bingeing. The ways you used to cope don't serve you anymore, leading to shame spirals and constant self-blame. It's hard to prioritize yourself when your mind is always racing. But you want more from life. You want to understand yourself, live in the present, and create a life that aligns with your values. You crave connection with others, the freedom to move comfortably, and the ability to trust your emotions. Your goal is to feel safe and free in your body, build healthy relationships, and find liberation. Therapy can help you find peace and deeper connections, especially when dealing with trauma and PTSD. Reaching out is a courageous act. In our sessions, we’ll focus on curiosity, presence, connection, and ease. I will provide a safe, non-judgmental space where your experiences are valued. Building trust is key. As a neurodivergent person in a larger body, I offer a unique perspective and empathy. My approach is rooted in cultural humility, offering HAES-aligned, fat-positive, neurodiversity-affirming, and gender and sexuality affirming care. We’ll mix processing and skill-building to help you manage emotions and reconnect with your body. Therapy can help you break trauma cycles and find fulfillment. Let’s take this step together, toward healing, connection, and peace.

It takes courage to explore different healing pathways. I am glad you are exploring options that are supportive to you. I strongly believe we all deserve healing and safe spaces. I believe we can collaborate and create this space for you. My therapeutic approach can be described by the words from R. Dass: “We are all just walking each other home” in our journey towards wholeness. I understand my role as a clinical social worker is to accompany individuals in their own inner healing and discovery of their own resiliency. I am committed to a trauma-informed and anti-oppression practice. My therapeutic practice embodies caring for the whole person (mind-body-spirit). I have a specialized interest in integrating individuals’ deepest spiritual or cultural practices and engaging in nature based healing. It is a privilege and gift to co-create healing spaces together. Since I have had ten years experience in a hospital setting, I can offer specialized treatments in traumatic stress and vicarious trauma on care providers. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Mindfulness-Based Practice. It can be challenging to find a therapist that is a good fit. If you think we may be a good fit, then please feel free to reach out so we can schedule a brief initial phone consultation to discuss goals and hopes.
